    • Applies to foreign (non-UAE national) full-time workers in the UAE private sector who completed at least one year of continuous service.
    • 21 days of basic wage for each of the first five years of service, and 30 days of basic wage for each year after that.
    • Partial years are counted in proportion (months and days).
    • Daily wage = last basic monthly wage divided by 30. Allowances such as housing and transport are not included unless you add them in the optional field.
    • Days of unpaid absence are not counted as service.
    • The total gratuity cannot be more than two years of wage.
    • Under the current law the formula is the same whether you resign or your employer ends the contract.

    • Employees in DIFC and ADGM, government-sector employees and domestic workers, who follow their own rules.
    • Part-time, temporary and job-sharing arrangements (these are pro-rated by contracted hours) and contracts shorter than one year.
    • Employees whose employer enrolled them in the voluntary Alternative End-of-Service (savings) scheme. Gratuity earned before enrolment is calculated up to the enrolment date, and later service is covered by fund contributions.

    Frequently asked questions

    How is UAE gratuity calculated?

Under Article 51, a full-time foreign worker with at least one year of continuous service receives 21 days of basic wage for each of the first five years and 30 days of basic wage for each year after that. Partial years are paid in proportion. The daily wage is the monthly basic wage divided by 30.

    Which salary is used?

The last basic wage only. Allowances such as housing, transport and utilities are not included unless your contract says otherwise.

    Is there a maximum?

Yes. The total gratuity cannot exceed two years of wage. With the standard rates this limit is reached after about 25.5 years of service.

Do I still get gratuity if I resign?

Yes. Under the current law the same formula applies whether you resign or your employer ends the contract, as long as you completed one year of continuous service. The reductions for resignation in the old 1980 law no longer apply.

    Do unpaid leave days count?

No. Days of unpaid absence are not counted as service. Paid annual leave and sick leave still count.

    When must gratuity be paid?

The UAE government portal (u.ae) says all end-of-service entitlements must be paid within 14 days of the end date of the contract.

Does this apply to UAE nationals, DIFC or ADGM?

No. UAE nationals follow the pension and social-security rules, and DIFC and ADGM have their own employment rules. Check with your employer or the relevant authority.

What is the Alternative End-of-Service savings scheme?

Employers can choose to join a voluntary scheme where they pay monthly contributions into an approved investment fund instead of gratuity. If your employer enrolled you, gratuity earned before enrolment is still payable, and this calculator does not cover the later period. Ask your HR team.

    Is this calculator official?

No. It is an estimate for general information. It is not a MOHRE tool and not legal advice. Please check the official sources listed under Basis of calculation.
